NBG Programs
The National Bicycle Greenway is envisioned as a nationwide network of
interconnected bike friendly roads and bicycle pathways that will connect
cyclists to major cities all throughout the US. The following
programs are currently in place to help achieve this end:
| Bikeway Identification |
Identify and classify existing bikepaths, roads with
bike lanes, and low traffic roads, tracked through a
national database. Opportunities identified in areas
needing bikeways.
New Route/Path
Nomination: Cyclists can nominate arterials for
consideration by the NBG by contacting us.

| Bikeway Standards |
As the standard bearer for bike road infrastructure, developers and city
and county governments will consult with us about any new road
building that is needed. It lets users of NBG certified roads know
what to expect..

| Education |
To teach the importance of making roads and
trails safe for cyclists; show how and
explain why this has to be done correctly as not
to discourage new bike riders and to encourage those looking for ways to
leave the car behind. In addition, we
explain mental and physical health benefits of
incorporating cycling into their life.
Speakers, seminars, and
children's safety programs are available
for schools, corporations, service organizations,
and bike clubs in Santa Cruz, California

| Sponsorship |
Sponsorship by businesses and corporations help
promote cycling, the greenway, and related events.
Popular sponsorship venues include NBG Bike Fest and
Mayors'
Ride which raise public awareness of the NBG and our sponsors. In
addition, NBG branded merchandise sold by sponsoring businesses
also serve to communicate our vision. 5% of
merchandise sales directly benefit the NBG.

| Grant Application |
Apply for public and private grant programs that are
closely aligned with NBG's vision. Assist
local/regional non-profits that share NBG's vision in
securing grants that apply to local regions.

 | The Greenway network will utilize a network of abandoned rail lines and highways as well as active utility and aqueduct rights of way. It will ultimately be fed by other bicycle highways that stretch up and down both seaboards and crisscross America from east to west and north to south. |
