Mayors' Ride Bios - Erik Knutzen
1. Which Relay link do you want to ride?

Long Beach to Los Angeles
2. How you found us
email from L.A. Bicycle Coalition
3. Why you want to do this ride
Because I want what Western Europe already has, a network of bicycle friendly roads and paths that make the bicycle a part of the solution to our nationís transportation problems. I believe that getting people out of cars and onto a bicycle is the single most significant way to reduce our nationís oil dependency, air pollution, and obesity.
4. Tell us about your touring experience- if little or none, indicate many miles have you ridden over the last year:
Some touring experience, not a lot - have traveled about 700 to 900 miles in the past year.
5. Tell us about your bike
Road bike - Bianchi
6. Describe your training regimen
20 to 50 miles cycling per week, 10 to 20 miles running
7. How are you making time for this
I set my own schedule so I can take the whole day
8. What are your fears about doing this ride
May need some help with the routing.
9. Do you have any special skills that you feel would benefit the Mayors' Ride?
Nothing I can think of - have done some public speaking in the past.
10. If you are involved with other non-profit organizations, please tell us about them:
I work at the Center for Land Use Interpretation (www.clui.org) - though this is not the type of event the CLUI would normally get involved with. I'm also a member of the LA Bicycle Coalition.
11. Anything else you'd like to share with us?
I will probably take public transit (the blue line) down to Long Beach to begin the journey as I live near downtown Los Angeles.

Dear NBG,
I just wanted to thank you for your work and tell you that I had a great time riding from LA to Long Beach (and back again) to pick up the proclamations. Stephen, Enci and I were talking about how great it feels to do something positive on behalf of bicycle advocacy. Keep up the good work, and someday this entire nation will be linked up by bicycle.
Regards,
Erik Knutzen
