How did you find out about NBG/Mayors' Ride?
Email from NBG

Why do you want to do this ride?
I have ridden several Centuries and the STP in Washington. I have since gotten away from riding and want the inspiration to get back into it. A 175 mile ride is very approachable, particularly if it can be ridden over a three or four day period.

I also like to take photos. This trip would provide some photo opportunities.

I also want to promote a connection from my hometown in Cincinnati to a major bike path in a neighboring town. Plans call for this bike path to be extended toward downtown Cincinnati, making commuting a real possibility for those who want to ride most of the route without the risk of competing with automobiles. I would plan to use my participation in this ride as a launch pad for enthusiasm to begin fund raising to allow us to do a feasibility study.

Tell us about your touring experience- if little or none, indicate how many miles have you ridden over the last year:
I had cervical fusion surgery in late 2003, so I did not ride at all in 2003. I have recently begun to ride. If involved in this trip, I would plan to ride 15 -20 miles, two or three times per week. I live in a hilly area that is four miles from a wonderful bike path. So my training carries my up and down hills and then along a flat path.

I have ridden in the Seacoast Tristate Century in NH, Maine and the STP from Seattle to Portland. When I was riding more, I typically road 60 miles per week. I want to get back to that level of riding this spring and this ride will inspire me to do that. I won\'t ride that far without proper conditioning. I want to enjoy the ride, not suffer through it.

Tell us about your bike:
I have a Cannondale that is about 6 years old. I think it has the RAD 4 frame. Road bike. Shimano 105 touring set up with triple chainring.

Please describe your training regimen:
I have just started riding again. I plan to ride about 10-15 miles three or four times a week. As the ride approaches and my conditioning improves, I will begin to take longer rides on the weekend. I would plan to do at least two 40 mile rides before this event.

How are you making time for this ride?
I will take vacation. Since it runs over the weekend, I would expect to be able to do the ride in four days, to give me time to enjoy the countryside and the towns I would likely ride through.

What are your fears about doing this ride?
Weather. Cars. Breakdowns. The normal fears when riding cross county.

Do you have any special skills that you feel would benefit the Mayors' Ride?
Photography. I am a former mayor of our small town, Madeira, a Cincinnati Suburb. I am mechanically inclined, so I don\'t worry too much about breakdowns.

If you are involved with other non-profit organizations, please tell us about them:
adeira City Council. Ohio Association of Civil Trial Attorneys, past president.

Presently, I am not active in any other organizations. I have been active as a coach in our community recreational basketball, soccer and softball programs.

Anything else you'd like to share with us?
Probably, I would not be willing to do this ride alone. I will need to have some experienced riders with me to make this a reality. I may be able to recruit some riders if I am accepted.

Many of the trails will be used for commuting and recreation during the week, and on weekends, especially in urban areas, they will see additional use by roller skaters, hikers, joggers and the physically challenged.
