Mayors' Ride Bios - "Parky" Jim Wetherell
Which Relay link do you want to ride? Oakland to San Jose. If you
want I could do San Jose to Santa Cruz, also. Going up the hill
won't be fast, but the downhill into SC should be awesome!
How you found us - Member/NBG/Carfree
Why you want to do this ride - To promote cycling for the physically
challenged. I would also like to use this ride to raise funds for
Parkinson research through "Team Parkinson" if that doesn't pose any
problems.
Your touring experience - Three 500 miles/10 day tours - 28,000 miles
in 4 yrs.
Tell us about your bike - I ride a bent trike (Voyager) made by
Penninger.
Describe your training regimen - 20/30 miles pr day.
How many miles do your ride a year - 5,000 to 7,000 miles
Are you car free or Interested - I have been CF for 4 years, but now
use a car to transport my girlfriend to her doctor appts (65 mi. rt).
She has advanced PD, & can't ride that far.
How are you making time for this - I am on permanent disability due
to Parkinson's disease.
How many miles do you plan to ride in 2003 - 5,000.
What are your fears about doing this ride - Getting across the
Oakland Bay bridge!
Do you have any special skills - A never give up attitude.
Do you have any helpful friends for us - Yes, Karl @ zZipp Design & I
use to work for Mike Waters @ Pacific Coast Bus Lines (SF), &
Serendipity Land Yachts, (Santa Clara).
What other activities do you do - Aside from my cycling & doing most
of my own service & repairs, I carry on a daily battle with PD. I
haven't won, but I'm winning!
